This deserves 10 stars! 5 stars for the tune and 5 more stars for VAP customer service! I have a 2012 R8 V10 that I bought second hand. One of previous owner had installed a VF engineering tune on it. The car was EXTREMELY difficult to drive during part throttle acceleration above 3000 RPM. It would surge badly as if you were trying to go WOT and was really jerky. It took about 2 weeks to get a hold of anybody in the tuning department, and they were unwilling to acknowledge this as a problem despite there being many people with the same complaint. They basically told me my car must be broken as it was not possible their tune could be doing this.
After getting this response I decided it was in my best interest to switch tunes. I had some VAP tunes recently on my Jag and Land rover and was very happy with them so I decided to give VAP a try on the Audi despite them not being a “household name” in the online R8 tuning world. I received my flasher in no time at all, but could not get it to do an initial read. Come to find out FV OBD locked the ECUs so they could not be OBD flashed! I spoke with Chris who was confident they could solve the problem, but they would need to bench flash both ECUs.
I sent of my ECUs to Canada and wouldn’t you know it DHL temporarily lost my package in transit! I got ahold of Laura at VAP shipping department and she was extremely helpful in trying to get the problem solved from their end. Honestly I was amazed and relived at the level of customer service she offered. She kept me updated every step of the way and I never had to try and hunt somebody down for answers.
After all the shipping issues were sorted out I received my ECUs back in no time at all. The car fired right up with no coding or adaptions needed.
The VAP tune is a night and day difference to the VF tune. It drives smooth, pulls hard and throttle response is exactly how it should be. I have absolutely no surging and can finally enjoy driving my R8 rather than focusing on trying not to give my self whiplash. This is my 3rd tune from VAP and I will continue to use them over any other options available.
