As boost increase and load through the supercharger drive system goes up, more and more is asked of the drive belt. With JLR’s challenging OEM belt routing causing belt contact with the tensioner body, and our customers pushing the limits on power, belt failures can occur. We recommend replacing drive belts on an annual basis and regular inspection for wear or damage.
With track usage or even hard driving on the road, shock loading of the belt when lifting off the throttle can cause supercharger belt failure, even in unmodified stock applications.
Almost all AJ126 & AJ133 engines utilize a mechanical vacuum pump to drive the brake booster. This pump is located VERY close to the crank pulley, and belt failure at high speed can easily take out the vacuum lines, resulting in lack of power assisted braking. Some of the late model FPace SVR models have even replaced this pump with an electronic source.
VelocityAP’s kit allows you to delete the mechanical vacuum pump, and replace it with an OEM Volvo-sourced electric pump to remove some of this risk.
