Can I just run the engine instead of using a trickle charger during read/write?
No, you cannot. The ECU must be in a stable state when reading/writing so the engine cannot be running. Using a battery tender is advised because voltage dropping too low can cause the flash to fail and brick the ECU.
Can I run the file on lower quality fuel (we recommend 93AKI/98RON minimum.)
In a pinch, yes you can, but we suggest avoiding hard throttle applications. Lower Octane fuels will result in more knock, and although the ECU will retard timing to protect the engine it does this in large increments (usually 8 degrees) and then tries to re-introduce timing. You will see a large power loss from using lower quality fuels, and worse fuel economy. Under some circumstances the fuel quality may be so poor that the ECU cannot react quickly enough to protect the engine adequately. TLDR: Don’t use poor quality fuels unless you absolutely have to, and if you have to then drive conservatively. The Octane rating listed by the manufacturer for the vehicle is what they consider the MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE.
Can you adjust XXXX in the tuning file?
The ONLY module we have access to for an Engine ECU tune is the Engine module. This means we cannot access other modules, so turning off seatbelt reminders, airbag warnings, altering vehicle default settings etc. etc. are not possible. Engine stuff only. If it’s a transmission tune, Tranny stuff only (easy now……)
What ‘options’ are available for my tuning file?

Where can I find the price for your tune
Either using the ‘shop by vehicle’ function, and selecting the ‘Tuning’ filter, or using the search function at the top of the main page.
Where can I find the power numbers and dyno sheet?
Most of our product pages are set up with expected BHP & Torque gains listed in the description. Variable products that require selections will show the power outputs for hardware combinations once selected, and will display the dyno chart if it is available.
Where can I find a VAP dealer to tune my car for me?
If you plan on having a VAP dealer flash your car, DO NOT purchase the software from us, you should purchase directly from the dealer you plan to use for the flashing process.
I want more power than what you quote on your website, can you do something for me?
Yes we can, but not with tuning alone. If you would like to take your vehicle further than we offer with our listed tuning products please contact us at [email protected] to discuss a custom project.
I have a tuning tool from a previous vehicle or another company, can I use this to tune my vehicle?
Generally, no. These tools are paired to the VAP master tool and we cannot decode/encode files for another device that is not set up to pair with our tools.
If I need to send my ECU to VAP for Bench Flashing, what is the process?
Once you have ordered the tune with the ‘Bench’ option, our fulfilment team will reach out to you to arrange shipping to our Tuning office in Montreal.
Will your tune void my warranty/is it detectable by the dealer?
Any company who states that their software is undetectable is telling you what you want to hear. While it is quite common with the way we write most of our tunes NOT to have it noticed, we advise all our customers to assume that if push comes to shove, it can be detected.
Warranty coverage may be compromised. Certainly if your window regulator fails, we don’t expect you to have a problem getting it repaired, even if you inform the dealer it has been tuned, but you should understand that there are some risks to your drivetrain warranty and be comfortable with that risk.
Do your flashing tools work on Mac/Apple products?
No they do not, you will require a windows PC to manage the setup & file transfer. This PC does not need to be connected to the device during the read/write process and can be in another location.

The software version on the vehicle has been updated by a non-VAP tool and the file you are attempting to flash does not match that version.
If you previously flashed back to stock, you can reset the device. Please email [email protected]with the device serial number and a request to reset.
If the last procedure the device performed was flashing a MOD file, you will need to purchase unlock credits here: https://www.velocityap.com/product/vflash-unlock-credit/ Send the order number and device serial number to [email protected] for the device to be unlocked, and then read the new original file version to submit for modification (no charge for update.)
How do I find/flash my original file?
The original file is stored in the device at all times, and can be found by selecting ‘WORK’, and then ‘ORIGINAL’

Device is connected to PC but won’t load the Vtech Desktop Software
Usually a Driver issue – Confirm that the Device Driver has been installed successfully during the installation process.
Displays Error Message ‘File Mismatch’: The software version on the vehicle has been updated by a non-VAP tool and the file you are attempting to flash does not match that version.
If you previously flashed back to stock, you can reset the device by connecting to the PC software and selecting ‘Erase Data’

Ensure ignition is ON, with the engine NOT RUNNING. If this is verified, you are plugged into the wrong OBDII connector (There is one for Engine, and one for Body Modules)
